Appleby Creamery Stall

Appleby Creamery  are holding a stall at next weeks Saturday market, in the cloisters.   Should be great activity to sample some award winning locally made cheeses.

Championing A Tradition Of Cumbrian Artisan Cheese

Appleby Creamery RangeOur exceptional range boasts an abundance of awards and accolades. Each cheese is distinctive by nature and perfected in small batches with time honoured skills in their creation and natural maturing.
View the speciality cheeses from the Appleby Creamery range for the true taste of regional originality.

Eden-Valley-Brie

Due to some unfavouable commercial issues we have decided to stop using organic milk to produce our brie (and smokies), the brie – now called simply ‘EDEN VALLEY BRIE’ is still produced to the exact same recipe and we hope you will continue to enjoy it as much as we do – it is now also available in 1Kg deli style wheels.

Appleby Creamery is based in the historic market town of Appleby-in-Westmorland in the Eden Valley which can boast a history of cheese making recorded over 5 centuries.

Born & bred old ‘Applebians’ & expert cheese makers Maurice Walton, Alan Mandle & Bob Parmley who together boast 80 years’ experience, combine their knowledge in producing 10 varieties of handmade cheese. Using traditional recipes from the region & utilising locally pastured herds of cows, sheep & goats milk which graze the herbaceous north western hills & fells of Cumbria.

The trio came together in 2007 with a view to utilise the yield of the small traditional dairy herds which survive in the remote uplands and with which the fragile rural economy and communities still depend.

All the milk is sourced directly, fresh from the farm. Pasteurisation is in-house maintaining the individual batches and the consistency of the cheese. A vegetarian rennet is used throughout all the range in the separation of the curd so not to discriminate the consumer.

The distinctive cheeses have together accumulated over 20 nationally recognised industry accolades, 6 being Gold as well as Appleby Creamery being named ‘Best Producer’, in the prestigious ‘Taste Cumbria’ awards.

Two shops in Appleby sell the award winning cheeses, these are Appleby Bakery and The Taste of Eden Café.

The Comedy of Errors
What happens when you get mistaken for your twin brother and your wife locks you out of your own home? This is the dilemma for Antipholus of Syracuse. Or is the Antipholus of Ephesus? Their father could tell the difference between them. But he's locked up and will be put to death in twenty-four hours unless a fine of a thousand marks is paid. Their mother might help but since the shipwreck nobody knows where she is. Perhaps the servants will sort it out. Hang on, they look very similar too! A comedy about a family putting itself back together again - just in time.
